Frequently asked questions

Is this freelance contract template legally valid in India?

Yes. The contract is a standard service agreement that follows Indian contract law under the Indian Contract Act, 1872. For high-value projects, always get a lawyer to review the final document.

Do I need a GST number to use this contract?

No. GST registration is optional. If your annual turnover is below the threshold (₹20 lakh for most states), you do not need to register. The contract works whether or not you charge GST.

Can I use this contract for both one-time and retainer projects?

Yes. The template covers both. For one-time projects, set a fixed end date and a single payment amount. For retainers, leave the end date open and describe monthly deliverables in the services field.

What should I put in the services field?

Be specific. Instead of 'design work', write 'Design of 5 social media banner templates in Figma, 2 revision rounds included, final files delivered as PNG and editable .fig'. Vague contracts lead to scope creep.

How do I get my client to sign the contract?

Once you create an account in Rinto, the contract is saved and you can send it to your client from the app. They get a signing link. No account needed on their side.
